Fall Inspired Chalkboard Art

Does my post title really have the word "fall" in it, despite the fact that it's still August? Yes folks, it sure does, and I'm not one bit sorry about it. I came down with a fall fever a couple of weeks ago and I haven't gotten rid of it since, so this past weekend  I decided to finally embrace it and do a little fun project! Come check it out!

This past weekend my husband had to work a lot from home, so I stayed at home for a lot of it as well which was completely fine by me.   I had some projects I wanted to work on, including this shelf that I will share details about in another blogpost, and I love an occasional Saturday "me" night. This past Saturday "me" night included a cheesy chick flick movie, a glass or two of wine, and some chalkboard doodling and I must say,  it was amazing and so relaxing!

A week or so ago, I came across an Instagram photo that gave me the inspiration for this "gather" sign, and I thought it would be perfect for the fall and Thanksgiving so I wanted to create one myself. I toyed with the idea of creating a DIY chalkboard, but when I came across a framed chalkboard from Hobby Lobby that cost $13 after using a coupon I picked it up because it seemed a lot easier and more practical than creating my own. I also picked up a chalkboard pen  while I was there so that I could draw on it.

I did a couple of practice sketches on a piece of paper before actual drawing it on the chalkboard, and as you can see it's not perfect by any means but I love how it turned out. What's great about a chalkboard pen is that it's more permanent than a standard piece of chalk, but if you mess up you can just use a little bit of water and "erase" your error marks. I found Q-tips to be quite handy when trying to fix my errors a long the way.

So what do you think? I think it's made me even be more fall crazed!   I will have to wait another week though to add more fall decor because my husband's birthday is this upcoming weekend, and he says I can't bring our decor into the next season until his "August summer birthday has passed". Fair enough, so until then, I will just be dreaming up more fall decor ideas. Stay tuned!
