Guest Bathroom Reveal

Months ago,  I blogged about the makeover plans for our guest bathroom and today I'm finally here to reveal the transformation thus far in this space.  I might (ok, probably will)  make some more changes down the road, but I thought it was time to do a actual reveal so that I could just leave this room alone for now and start focusing my attention elsewhere in our house and show you other things we have been working on recently.

When we moved into the house, the bathroom had peachy dark tan colored walls and had a builder grade mirror and vanity lights. It wasn't in our budget to gut the bathroom and do a total makeover, so instead we made the best with what we had and by changing out some of the fixtures and using some point this room was quickly transformed.
To lighten up the space we changed the color of the walls and I decided to paint the cabinets white and talked about how I did it on this blogpost.  I also added pulls onto the cabinets to give it a more customized look.

The other DIY project that we also tackled in this bathroom was the tile backsplash. You can read a tutorial on how we did it, here. We decided to go with a multi-toned backsplash in order to give more depth in the predominately monochromatic design.

I also wanted to steer away from the builder grade look, so we replaced the mirror and vanity lights with a beveled rectangle mirror and nickel brushed vanity light that went with the other hardware in the room. Looking back, I wish I would of put a round mirror because it would of fit the space better, but I'm still very happy with the beveled mirror I chose.

I struggled for a while on deciding on what I wanted to hang over the toilet area, and I ultimately just used frames and art prints that I already owned. It helped save on money and I also thought the frames complimented the dark tiles in the backsplash well.

Changing out the faucet was not necessary, but I'm so glad that we replaced the builder grade faucet with this spa-like fountain one, because it's definitely one of my favorite changes within this entire makeover . It really helped make this space more reflect our style and I love the extra customized detail it brings to the space.

I carried the clean white look through into the towels and shower curtain as well. I wanted texture in the space, so after trying 4 different shower curtains I decided on this ruffled white shower curtain from Target.  We also replaced the shower curtain bar for a bowed one, since I'm weird and hate shower curtains touching me, and we also replaced the towel bars to match the rest of the hardware in the space.

Also, we didn't want to replace the flooring in the bathroom or paint the grout so instead we just gave the flooring a thorough cleaning and used Zep Grout Cleaner and Whitener to make the grout look new again.

So what do you think of the makeover? I think I love it! It's so fresh and clean looking and now it definitely better reflects our style!

  8. The key to decoration is neutral tones with a few dark colors. For the walls choose a matte or flat wall paint. Pale golds and yellows work particularly well as does floral or check patterned wallpaper.

  11. This is beautiful!!!! We gutted our bathroom and have to start from scratch. We knew we wanted a white vanity, and we have a mirrored medicine cabinet picked out as well as floor tile that looks a lot like yours. We were stuck on the vanity top color/material and the wall paint color. This beige is perfect! I couldn't believe the difference that paint made...it is cooler and lighter than your first beige. Our old wallpaper was similar to the old paint you had, so I was leery of going with a beige tone, but you totally hit it out of the park with that beige! It looks awesome with the white cabinet and trim and towels. So beautiful! Thank you for putting all of the color/purchase details at the bottom of this post. You have no idea how it has helped me!
