Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! This weekend had some of the coldest days in Michigan so far this winter, so I'm beyond ready for Spring to get here!

Lately our weekends have been a little busy, so it was nice to have a low key couple of days. On Friday, I stopped by Artvan to drop off some cases of water that they are collecting for the Flint lead water crisis. I decided to look around since I was already there, and I couldn't believe how many great things they had, this shelf, for instance I loved and the price tag was actually very reasonable! When I got home I told Paul that if I didn't feel like I was constantly trying to hide from the sales people while I was there, I'd stop more often. Anyone else hate being bothered constantly when they are shopping? It's a pet peeve of mine and I have anxiety just thinking about it.

On Friday we received all the new hardware for the kitchen so I had fun taking them out of their wrappers and Oohhing and Ahhing over them. I can barely handle my excitement of finally having hardware on the cabinets (see what I did with the word handle;) I'm not one that's good with words so things like that make me very proud, Ha! Anyways,  as much as I'd love to tell you that they are currently installed, unfortunately that isn't the case. Our kitchen cabinets are pretty dirty so I first need to thoroughly clean them before Paul installs them. We plan to start doing a couple a night, to make the job more manageable.

On Saturday, we celebrated Valentines Day. We aren't ones to go all out for this Holiday, but Paul did things to make the day special. One of those things includes hanging my latest project! I will be sharing a post in March about this that's going to be part of a blogging series, but I thought i would show you a sneak peak. Poor Paul always has some sort of a honey-do-list from me, but he takes it like a champ and I'm so grateful for that.

After he hung the light, we went to a new lunch spot in Grand Rapids called Uncle Cheetah's. I had a salad wrap and it was delicious! Our afternoon was pretty low key, and we went to a local meat shop to pick stuff up for dinner. Last year Paul made a steak dinner for Valentines Day, so we decided to do the same thing again. Last year while he made the dinner, I watched the HGTV Dream home in Martha's Vineyard while drinking a glass of my favorite wine, and I enjoyed it so much that I saved the 2016 episode to watch for this VDAY. What a disappointment that turned out to be! Last years was spot on with my own personal taste, and this year was MEH! Might need to come up with a new tradition next year.

Although the show was disappointing, the meal was amazing.  He made Delmonico steaks, roasted carrots and Brussel sprouts, homemade mash potatoes, and for dessert chocolate covered strawberries. It was delicious and better than most restaurant dinners!

On Sunday morning I couldn't sleep past 6am, so I decided to get up and paint. I started painting as the sun was rising so I felt even more artsy lol They will be going in my laundry closet and I will be sharing more photos in another blog post soon.

On Sunday we also knocked off another kitchen project, we converted an existing cabinet into a trash bin. We tried finding the right size trash bags for these yesterday while we were at our grocery store, but we had no luck so they are currently still not being used. Speaking of going grocery shopping, somehow we managed to forget two of our bags in the bottom of the cart yesterday so we lost all of our meat for this week, avocados, and sweet potatoes. It was quite upsetting but we learned our lesson to always double, triple check the cart!!

Last night ended on a high note. The projector that I got Paul for Christmas is now installed on the ceiling! We still have a lot of work to do in the basement, but we have been thoroughly enjoying this space and watching movies down there. Friday night we watched Martian and it was really good! Best movie we have watched so far in our little media area.

Did any of you do anything fun this weekend? I'd love to hear in the comment section!

  1. If you liked Uncle Cheetah, you should check out The Old Goat in Alger Heights. It's owned by the same people and we love it! We live right around the corner and love going there.
