2017 New Years Resolutions

I love the New Year as it is a chance to change habits, improve upon yourself and show 2017 whose boss!! The month of January is the perfect time to reflect upon the past year of what didn't work and to start fresh on resolutions and make yourself proud. So today I thought I would share some of my own resolutions that I'm hoping to work on in 2017.

1. RESET MY EATING HABITS:

I'm one of the millions of people right now whose New Years resolutions includes eating healthier, getting into good shape , blah blah blah, you get it. What's different this year is my approach and motivation. Usually in the New Year I start a fad diet and workout routine in order to loose a certain amount of weight by bikini season, then call it all off to "enjoy" aka indulge during Summer and then the Holidays and then repeat it all over again. This year I , along with my hubby, really want to clean up my eating for good, as I want to have children in the next couple of years and want to raise my kids to eat healthy so it's really important that I stop this yo-yo eating and instead change my lifestyle for the long hall.

To jump start this lifestyle change I'm starting another round of Whole 30, which I've done in the past and have really liked since it's not a diet but rather it resets the way you eat and your relationship with food.  If you're unfamiliar with it, in a nutshell it doesn't restrict calories but rather restricts food categories including
  • Cheese
  • Dairy
  • Legumes
  • Grains
  • Sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Processed food
... and you do it for 30 days. The idea is that afterwards you have retrained your brain about eating, cooking, reading labels, etc. and start incorporating whole foods in your normal diet. My husband and I have done it before and loved how we felt that we kept it up for awhile after our first round, but then the holidays hit. This year we are hoping to be better at maintaining cleaner eating habits. We are currently on day 5 and so far so good!

2. IMPROVE COOKING SKILLS AND TRY NEW RECIPES

Whole 30 will also help with this resolution in that, to properly follow the eating plan you pretty much have to cook everything at home. Also, eating Whole 30 can taste really boring and feel unsatisfying when you only eat basic veggies and meat so trying new tasty creative recipes really helps me stay with it.

3. DISCONNECT FROM TECHNOLOGY BEFORE GOING TO BED

I feel like I'm always wired right up until I go to bed,  so this year I really want to give my brain a break from my phone and try to wind down at least half an hour before going to sleep.

4. READ MORE

Since I was young I've never liked reading. I don't mind reading blog articles or a magazine but that's about it. I've probably only read two books since I graduated from college 2.5 years ago, pathetic, I know. This year I really want to start reading more as I know how important it is with writing and overall being knowledgable about things.

5. BE MORE ORGANIZED

Last year this was one of my resolutions and although I made a lot of progress, I still have a long ways to go. I don't have as many house projects planned for this year, so this year I really want to focus on getting everything organized and decluttered. I plan to blog about organization ideas this year as it will be a main focus in our home.

6. CLEAN HOME ROUTINELY

To help be more organized, I want to get better at cleaning our home routinely and to put things back
after I use things. If I got this resolution down pat this year, my life would be so much easier as I wouldn't have to
spend hours cleaning at one time or stressing to find something that I misplaced. I have a plan on how to improve
on this, and if successful, I will share with you all.

7. BLOG MORE

This year my goal is to blog more frequently than I did in 2016, as I feel like I kind of dropped the ball during periods of last year. Oops!! Now that we have lived in our house for a little over 2 years, my home projects are going to be fewer, especially the large projects. That said,  my goal with the blog is to write more posts that are focused on offering design tips and tricks and things that I have learned over the past two year since getting into design and DIY and becoming a homeowner. I will still include all the usual updates of our house, but I'm excited to write these more fun and informative posts!

8. TAKE MORE PICTURES OF HUSBAND & FAMILY

I used to be so good at taking pictures of my husband and I, especially when we were dating and engaged and every year I would make a year recap photo album. Since starting my blog, though,  most of the photos that I take are of home stuff. Nothing wrong with that, but in 20 years when I look back of photos of my life in my early 20's I know I will want to see some human pictures as well:)

I hope you all have a wonderful 2017! I'd love to hear what are your New Years Resolutions are this year!
