Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week thus far. Last week I posted a photo of the pillows that I had sewn for our sectional along with a couple of other pillows that I had already bought. I got a lot of questions and people interested in them so I thought today I would share the various fabrics that were used along with showing you how I like to style them on our sectional. Our family room is definitely not finished, but these pillows have certainly gotten us closer. (Note: In many of the photos the colors appear a little more muted, so the fabrics appear differently in person. Our living room gets a lot of natural light during the day so that sometimes gets in the way of photographing the room properly.)
Here are the new pillows that currently sit on our sectional. If you can't tell, I'm obsessed with pillows. Anyone else share this obsession? That said, I chose to go with very neutral furniture so that I can easily change the colors or style in the room by updating my pillow covers when I want. For now though, seeing as it is almost spring I wanted to go with colors that were calming, but also spring like. Light blue is my favorite color so using that in my decor was also inevitable. Out of these 7 pillows, I sewed 4 of them (the 2 medallion blue and white ones, the spa blue pillow, and the center floral print pillow). They are by no means perfect, but I am happy with how they turned out seeing as I taught myself to sew. Here is the list of fabrics I used to sew the pillows along with the other 3 that I bought:
Blue and white medallion fabric: Monroe Slub Snowy
Spa blue fabric: Richloom Fabric in Jerome Spa
Brown Ikat Fabric (bought off Etsy because it was cheaper than me sewing): Belize Taupe
Floral print fabric: P. Kaufmann Leaf Sampler/Cir Cloud
White Pillow: Ikea
If you are interested in buying any of these fabrics I would recommend shopping prices from various places. Online fabric stores have sales all the time so prices are constantly changing. If you are reluctant to buy fabric online, than I'd definitely recommend checking out Jo ann fabric and Hobby Lobby - they have a great selection and they are always having sales as well!
Choosing the fabrics that I wanted for this space definitely took awhile. (I have many fabric samples to prove this). Ultimately I decided on these four fabrics, and I loved how they could be interchangeable with other fabrics depending on the season. The bottom lumbar pillow doesn't sit on my sectional but rather I have two and they sit in the two chairs in the living room. The fabric on those pillows is Thom Filicia Citysquare Mistymorn. In the photo it appears like it is white and gray, but in person it's a grayish blue color (perfect example of my living photographing oddly).
For a spring like feel, I decided to add a floral pillow that has blue and greens in it. This pillow will definitely not stay throughout the year, but I love the pop of green it adds and is perfect for the Spring and Summer.
Since the sectional is rather large having 7 pillows on it doesn't seem too overwhelming, or at least in my opinion. Right now I put two on each end of the sectional and three in the middle.
Within the pillow covers I use down alternative pillow inserts so that I can karate chop them (meaning give them that "V" look at the top). Sometimes if I'm feeling goofy I will even add in the "Hi Ya" when I fluff the pillows. Paul is entertained by this so sometimes he likes to join in as well, but usually it's in a form of mockery. He thinks I take my karate chopping too seriously and he's probably right!:)
Don't mind that big black board against the wall, it's just my DIY mirror that is missing it's mirror. If everything goes right, I should have that reveal next week for all of you.
These are the chairs that I was saying where the lumbar pillows go. I love the size of them, and yes I use down alternative inserts for these pillows as well so that I can karate chop those too. I think I secretly wish I was Daniel Son or at least had some of his moves (name that movie...ok hint "wax on wax off"...)
I love the color that the pillows bring to the room and think they will look great for the Spring and Summer months. What do you think? What fabrics or pillows have you been loving lately for your living room or other rooms in your house?
