Updates

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and start to the week! I thought today would be a good day to catch you up on things around here.

Some of you may have noticed that projects have been going more slowly around here and the blog posts haven't been as frequent. Things at my day job have been really picking up lately, and all of my large projects that I've been working on for the last year are finally in the process of being implemented which means I'm in charge of overseeing a lot. Since I've been putting extra hours in at work, I no longer have as much extra time after work to work on some home projects. In addition, Paul and I both work from home so now that the weather is becoming warmer, once we both are done working we both want to leave our house since that's were we spend our entire day as is. The same goes for weekends as well. Since we are always in our home, weekends have been spent for the most part everywhere but inside our house. My parents were just recently in town and my in-laws have a cottage 30 minutes from us so we have also been enjoying quality time with our families as well. All this said, I can't promise that it's going to get a ton better at this time, just because we have many trips planned and we both really just want to be outside and enjoy this summer, but I do have a lot of things lined up. I also have several projects completed that I just need to find time to now blog about. I hope you will hang in there with me!

Now on to some things around our house!

1. Our Orchid child that we have had for about four months is still alive and looking rather healthy. I call it our "orchid child' because they say you should get a plant before you own a pet or have kids, and well this is my first house plant so i've been taking my orchid mom duty very seriously. Hah! I've had some people request a blog post on how I've taken care of it and kept it alive so I will be sharing that very soon!

2. Remember this DIY Pottery Barn Eagan Mirror that I built awhile back? Well we never secured it to the wall because I was unsure if I wanted to permanently hang it, so the other weekend I accidentally must of hit the console table that it was on because it fell over on me and two of the mirrors broke. I'm fine and the mirror can be repaired, but for now the console table and mirror have been moved to the basement.  I loved the mirror, but in all honesty, I wasn't in love with it in this space so I'm not too sad about it getting removed from this room. I thought about different replacement options and I think ultimately we are going to go with a white bookshelf. I took one from my office to see how it looked and I immediately loved the idea of it. It definitely helps balance out the room more. More details on that to come.

3. Another thing that we have been up to lately is looking at houses with my parents because they have decided to buy a second home in Michigan!! My parents are originally from MI but they decided two summers ago to move to OR, but now they have decided to have a second house in MI so they can spend several months out of the year here. Within just one weekend  they decided on a house, and it should be all theirs in a matter of weeks. Having my family move to the other side of the country has been hard at times, so I'm very excited to start seeing them more regularly especially in the fall!

Two weeks ago on the blog , I shared an update on the guest bedroom makeover and said that we were hoping to find an  quality but also affordable mattress for the room soon. We found one on us-mattress.com two days ago and finally pulled the trigger on it. It should be arriving in the next two to three weeks so it will give me plenty of time to begin working on other projects I have planed for the space. Stay tuned for more updates and DIY projects for that room.

Lastly, with the weather getting very warm and beautiful out, another big change has been my fitness. Earlier this fall during our laundry closet makeover I broke my big toe and had to have surgery so my fitness routine got put aside this fall and winter. I'm back to running and lifting light weights often so it's been really nice getting back into shape and feeling better! I hope you all have a wonderful week!

  1. So glad your parents are moving closer to you guys... at least for part of the year. As close as I am to my parents I couldn't imagine them moving across the country without me!

    1. Hi Sara! Thank you for stopping by. When they moved my sister and her husband and my little brother also moved so yes it definitely was very hard, since I'm super close with all of them. Luckily I've been able to see them more frequently and it definitely will be nice having them near for part of the year!
