2016 Goals and Projects

Happy New Years everyone and welcome to 2016!! I thought that it would be appropriate for the first blog post of the year to be about my goals this upcoming year, because one way or another you will hear more about them on the blog throughout the year.

HOME PROJECTS: I have a long list of goals that I want to achieve in our home this year, but realistically we most likely won’t be able to do all of them. Out of the list, though, the home projects that will be happening this year involve projects in the kitchen, basement, master bathroom, and our deck.  The kitchen project actually began last week, and have since changed from our original plan that I blogged about awhile back so stay tuned for details later this week about we are doing in the space. Below is an image of what our kitchen looked like in case you forgot.

The other space that I have a lot of projects planed for is our basement living room area. Two months ago this project wasn’t on the list, but Paul asked for a projector and soundbar for Christmas for the basement, which meant instant media space for me to design. We don’t want to spend a lot of money in this area since it doesn’t get a whole ton of use, so I have a lot of DIY projects lined up for this space! Here is a picture of the space I took awhile back in all its brown glory. Since I've taken this photo much of this furniture has been moved to my parents Michigan house, so this space is sitting pretty bare. Stay tuned for my design ideas for the space!

The third space that we plan to tackle is our master bathroom. Ideally we would totally gut and renovate this space (mainly because of the fact that we don't use the tub and the vanity only has one sink) , but it's not in the budget to do so. That said, I’m going to work with what we have and make small cosmetic changes with the mirror, tiling, hardware, etc.. There currently isn’t a door into our master bathroom, so we are also going to build a double door which is the most exciting part of the project for me! When we bought the house I didn’t think I would mind having an open entryway into the bathroom, but after the first time being woken up by the bathroom light and shower fan I realized how maddening it is. The only reason this project wasn't put on the priority list last year is because my kind husband uses our guest bathroom if I’m asleep!

There were will be other home updates this upcoming year but these three projects will surely be the largest ones we tackle and I couldn't be more excited about that!

ORGANIZING: This year my goal is to really work on organizing our home as well as organizing my life but more importantly KEEPING it organized. I'm rather sufficient at organizing (parts of our) home, but maintaining it is something I struggle with constantly.. it's like the never ending battle! I plan to work on this by taking my long to-do list and breaking it up into weekly/daily smaller more doable lists that won't be overwhelming. I'm hoping that this will help, so I will let you know once I have been working on it for awhile.

HEALTH GOALS:  In 2015, my health habits were not bad in that I worked out regularly and we ate pretty healthy, but there is always room for improvement.  In past years I have focused my resolution on just loosing weight, but I’m goal oriented so unless I have a specific reason to loose weight (like in 2014 for my wedding) my resolution of loosing weight doesn’t get me very far. So instead of focusing on loosing weight this year, since I already run regularly I figured 2016 is the perfect year to train for a half marathon because it will keep me motivated to workout as well as allow me to cross something off my bucket list. I'm hoping to also do a sprint triathlon, but it will all depend on if I can find one that fits my schedule.  This year my husband is also doing a Spartan Race in Portland with my dad, brother and brother-in-law, so we just joined a YMCA 2 minutes from our house so we can workout together and get in shape for our events. We have gone the last two days together so we are off to a good start!

In addition to working out, this year we both want to clean up our diets and eat healthier. We have already made a first step by getting rid of all the sugary things in our pantry because this girl right here has little self-control at night and I have already hit the cook books for inspiration. We are by no means dieting, but rather just trying to eat more healthy whole foods and be better about meal planning.

THE BLOG: The goals and plans listed above tie obviously into the blog because I plan to write about them.  I will mainly focus on home posts, but this year I plan on writing more lifestyle and possibly food idea posts as well.  I started this blog a little over a year ago just for fun and for my family to follow along with my house transformation, but now with a following beyond just my family I want to write more content that you will all find helpful. This year I would like to continue growing a loyal following, so I hope to blog more frequently and maybe do some design idea series can maybe inspire you!

I just want to thank all of you for your support this past year, and your continued support in 2016. It means so much to me to have all of you following my journey and I hope that I have been able to inspire you in some way! I'm excited to see what 2016 has in store, I think it's going to be pretty great!

Want to stay up to date with more of my home decor, DIY, lifestyle and other posts?  Then follow me along on any of the following so you won't miss out:)
