Weekend Recap

Last weekend I was in NYC, and when I arrived home Paul unloaded a whole list of projects that he had thought about while I was gone. This was shocking for me, seeing as he usually is the one putting the parking breaks on all of my project ideas, but I love projects so I was very welcome to them!

The first project we discussed this weekend was changing out this buffet bar area. We both love it, but our kitchen is about to undergo a re-design (details on that later this week), so we wanted this wall to coordinate with other aspects of the kitchen design. That said, these shelves are being removed, ship lap is going up, and new shelves that resemble the shelves in our front entryway will be added. These current shelves don't have much front support, so the new shelves we will be building will ease Paul's concern of the shelves falling off the wall.

As mentioned above, our kitchen is about to undergo a re-design, and this weekend we finally made decisions on the last details which was very exciting! While away last weekend, Paul also found the new trash system that will fit in our existing kitchen cabinet so on Saturday we went to a local kitchen and bath place and ordered it. We currently have a stainless steel trash can that sits at the end of our cabinets, so I'm so excited to finally have the trash hidden! After ordering the trash system, we headed to our new favorite BBQ place in town called Horseshoe Smokehouse if you're located in the Grand Rapids area.

After lunch, we went exploring which is one of our favorite things to do together. We both love looking at real-estate so we drove to a neighborhood in a neighboring town that currently has a house for sale that I love because of it's ceilings and white kitchen. A new house is not in our near-feature, but I love getting ideas for a next home and also figuring out areas that we both love. This area I especially loved because it's only minutes from a huge outlet shopping mall!

I think I may have mentioned this in my 2016 home plans post, but for Christmas I got Paul a projector for our basement so every weekend we have been enjoying watching movies on the big screen. Now that we have this media area and are beginning to use the basement, discussion has began about plans for the space. While I was gone in NYC, Paul came up with an idea for a spare wall in the basement that would consist of a media cabinet to store the dvd player that's linked to the projector as well as a desk area. I loved the idea and ran with it, so Saturday night I drew a sketch as well as came up with a few of my own additions, including, of course, my new found ship lap obsession, cubby cubes that would be a great place for storage of my craft stuff (and hopefully kids toys in the future) and some shelves and and industrial wall light to give it a modern farmhouse look. We are going to be near an Ikea in two weeks so we are planning on picking up some pieces that we can use to create custom looking built-ins. My sketch looked a little better though before spilling my canteen of water on it later that night. I think you get the gist though:)

Speaking of Ikea, while we are there in two weeks Paul and I decided last night that we plan to also get a new living room media cabinet. The one that we currently have is shiny dark brown and is the first piece of furniture that we bought when buying the house and now that we have other living room furniture it just doesn't really go with the space. No surprise, I plan on picking up a white media cabinet that will go nicely with our fireplace and bookshelf in the room. I think it will also help make our coffee table pop more! After, making decisions on all of these projects I wrapped up last night by making a new recipe which I'm so excited to say Paul loved. They were  buffalo chicken lettuce wraps, recipe here, but I didn't add the celery or blue cheese and instead used some mozzarella. They were delicious!

Lastly, on Saturday I took the plunge and joined Snapchat after hearing that my friends use it frequently. I have yet to do any public ones because I'm still trying to figure out how to use it, but if you want to follow along my username is grandvillelife. I love Instagram but I'm excited to start sharing more snippets into my life, home and projects.

Want to stay up to date with more of my home decor, DIY, lifestyle and other posts?  Then follow me along on any of the following so you won't miss out:)
