Today I’m sharing the one space in our house where I have free reigns when it comes to designing, my home office. Now don’t get me wrong, the rest of the house very much reflects my style, but this is the one space that Paul gets no say, as well as since it’s an office I can have fun with it and explore a little beyond my normal style. After all, I spend the majority of my day in here while I work my full-time Marketing job, so it’s important to me that I have a bright and light functional space that also makes me excited to work. Since last sharing my home office, I have shifted the furniture around and have added a new chandelier so come check it out!
This past weekend Paul installed my new chandelier and I must say it's a beauty! I was a little worried I wasn't going to like it because it's more modern than my normal taste, but I think it's perfect for the space. It adds a ton more light than I had before and it just makes the room seem so much more glam because of the statement that it makes. I got it from Menards which surprised me, because i never thought of them as having stylish chandeliers.
The bulbs that came with it are vintage bulbs, so when the lights are off the bulbs are yellowish which I'm not a fan of. It's fine for right now but once these all burn out I plan to replace them with other clear ones, because vintage lights are costly to maintain.
I currently have the shelves in my office semi-styled, but I plan to organize them a little more and streamline their look/ colors. The center console which is a filing cabinet will also get a mini facelift with new hardware down. As for the other side of the room, well, it's completely blank as you can see in the image below. I plan to add maybe a little chair in the corner and add some oversized artwork on the wall across from the desk in order to make the space more alive.
Here's a design board for the room so you get a little better idea of what I want to do with the space. I have a lot of these pieces already incorporated in the room, but I want to add some more finishing touches like rugs, accent chair and other decorative pieces to really make the space come together. I have loved the shag rug look lately, so I thought this would be the perfect space to incorporate it, especially since it will add great contrast to the dark desk. I also really want to add curtains in this room, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to due to the bay window and the fact that the wall comes to a point because of the cathedral ceilings so we shall see if that comes to a reality. As for a chair in the space, I'm kind of thinking that I want to do a ghost chair. I know, again not my usual style, but this space is pretty tight so I love how ghost chairs help make the space not looked so cluttered. So what do you think of my plans and the room so far? I'd love to hear things that you love to incorporate in your own home office!
